Description of Problem: (1) Motherboard PN 82203-00 sn 1078 (1) computer board PN 70314-00 sn TS129435 (with software chip) (1) power supply PN 55017-00 sn RA6A072358 (with DC output cable) Circuits not assyembled togther.
Work Done: Tested Power supply loaded down by the motherboard, and it passed. Connected computer board to motherboard power up with everything plugged in. The screen had no back light there were black boxes on the screen in a wave pattern. Smoke came up from D1 on the computer board. Checked computer board pins to see if they were off a row or some were bent, and they were not. Checked all other connections, and they were right. Reconnected the computer board to motherboard and the same thing happened. Without computer board connected, motherboard will not show any characters. 5v and -5v supplies are present for contrast pot, and the pot is functioning. 6/23/10 DK Found that the 3.3 voltage supply for the motherboard was not present. Without this supply driving the LCD DSP there is not a possibility of characters on the screen. The output was not shorted, and U50 the 3.3v regulator was getting its input. Chong to pull the output pins of U50 for further testing. The computer board is un-repairable. The 5 volt supply is shorted to common without the physically damaged D1 in circuit. This kind of damaged is un-repairable due to the cost of circuit, and the fact MFT cannot obtain a schematic from the vendor. 6/24/10 DK Replacing U50 caused the 3.3 voltage supply to be present again; however there will still no characters on LCD. Attempted to re-jtag LCD DSP and another IC required to produce characters on LCD. The LCD would not take a J-tag. Verified LCD DSP was getting its clock, and was not in reset. Wrote note for Chong to replace chip, and pulled part from stock. 6/29/10 DK The new DSP will take a J-tag, yet the LCD still doesn't have characters. Had Chong replace the two transiver IC's now the motherboard does show characters. The software chip is defective. Believed the transiver for AMP DSP has failed causing the safety relay for motor control to be unable to change states. 6/30/10 DK Transiver was replaced witch caused the motor control relay to be able to change states. Found that AMP DSP was loading down its reset pin. A computer board from stock failed during testing. An AMP DSP was damaged in an accident. 7/12/10 DK AMP DSP was replaced yet motor still would not run. Found that an Opto Isolator for VCC faults has failed. When its output was disconnected from circuit that the motor would RUN! Chong to replace component. 7/13/10 DK Motor will now run! Found problem in product sensor circuit determined A to D converter was the problem. Chong changed component. Found that cycle complete output would not toggle, and the problem was an opto isolator. Mother board is fully functional. Prepared repair quote and emailed to customer. 7/14/10 DK Received PO. The last time a Motherboard assembly was shipped in pieces bad thing happened when the customer re-assembled. Assembled circuits into a mother board assembly. 12/8/10 Restored setting from network. Repair Quotation Notes: Completed By: Computer board’s five volt supply is shorted to common, making it un-repairable. This also pulled down the output from the switching power supply causing it to appear that the electronic assembly was not getting power. The software chip has also failed we will need to know the serial number of the feeder that the motherboard assembly will be in as software settings need be added to the new software chip to reflect the physical machine. The 3.3 volt regulator failed. I suspect that the IC’s output spiked causing several component failures for the LCD display and motor control circuits. An analog to digital converter failed in the product sensor circuitry. An opto isolator failed for the cycle complete circuitry. Repair quote does not reflect final charges for service of this unit. Other problems either mechanical or electrical may arise during the RMA process due to natural causes. This quote does not reflect shipping charges. All items will be shipped via UPS ground unless otherwise specified on purchase order. A $475.00 diagnostic/administration/handling fee will be applied to an item the customer deems is uneconomical to repair. * A hard copy purchase order that agrees to repair quote charges is required before work can continue.
